Connect your sources

Google Drive

Attach a document to a piece of work, one file at a time.

What it does

You attach a document from your Drive to a piece of work. Briedo reads what it can and records it as something to confirm.

What Briedo reads

FileCan Briedo read it?
A PDF whose text is really text — an export from a system, an invoice, a packing listYes. Read directly, with no external service involved.
A scanned PDF or a photograph of a documentNo. As far as the file is concerned this is a picture. Briedo reports that it could not read it rather than reading it and finding nothing.
An image, a Word file or a spreadsheetNot today. Briedo says so rather than guessing.

What Briedo may write

Nothing. Briedo never modifies a file in your Drive.

Permissions you are granting

ScopeWhy
drive.filePer-file access to files a person explicitly picks.
openid, emailSo the connection can name the account, and so that reconnecting with a different account is refused rather than silently re-pointing your documents at somebody else’s Drive.

How to connect

  1. Settings, then Integrations, then Before discovery.
  2. Connect Google Drive and complete Google’s consent screen.
  3. Confirm the card says Connected — not merely that it is present.

How to route work

Nothing to route. A document is attached to one piece of work by a person, because the judgement that this paperwork belongs to this job is a human one.

How mapping works

There is no field mapping. Briedo looks for the things your setup already says matter, under the headings those things normally appear under on paperwork.

It is deliberately cautious. If a heading appears twice, or if a number could be read two ways in different countries, Briedo reads nothing for that item rather than picking one.

How to test it

  1. Open a test piece of work.
  2. Use Choose from Google Drive in the Documents panel and pick a PDF you know has real text in it.
  3. Confirm the document is attached and check what Briedo read.

How to know it is working

  • The file is attached to the piece of work.
  • What Briedo read appears as something to confirm, not as settled fact.
  • Confirming it settles the item; ignoring it leaves the item open.

When it goes wrong

What you seeWhat it means
Briedo could not import the fileIt may be a Google Doc rather than a real file, in the bin, or larger than Briedo accepts.
Imported but nothing was readAlmost always a scan. Try selecting text in your own PDF reader; if you cannot, neither can Briedo.
The reading did not settle anythingCorrect. A document reading is always something to confirm, and never outranks what a person told you.

How to disconnect

Disconnect on the Drive card. Briedo’s per-file access is withdrawn and revoked with Google. Files in your Drive are untouched.

What happens to what it already told us

Nothing is deleted. Work that was already prepared keeps everything it learned, including the record that this system is where it came from. Those are records of what was true at the time, and disconnecting a system later does not make them untrue.

What stops is new information arriving. Deleting historical data is a separate request, and a deliberate one.
